Resting along the banks of the dazzling Crystal River in the shadows of Mount Sopris and surrounded by imposing red cliffs is one of the most scenic small towns in Colorado: Redstone, the "Ruby of the Rockies." Redstone is a picture-perfect Victorian-age mountain village with beautiful mountain cabins, townhouses, private homes and estates of all shapes and sizes.

Redstone is located just east of the Crystal River that runs along Colorado State Highway 133. Many of the homes for sale just south of town are on the east side of the highway and river, on side streets like Antelope Drive, Beaver Drive, Big Horn Lane, Bison Lane, Bobcat Lane and Elk Lane. A little further north are homes on the west side of Crystal River on streets such as Aspen Drive, Bear Creek Lane, Chair Mountain Drive, Crystal Park Drive and Etasa Lane.

The town of Redstone is on the east side of the river, with Redstone Boulevard leading into town from the south. Many of the businesses are along Redstone Boulevard, and there are single-family homes, townhouses and cabins on nearby streets such as Osgood Street, Firehouse Road and Mackaby Lane. East Creek Lane off of Redstone Boulevard on the far north end of town heads east and up the mountain. There are few homes on East Creek Lane, but many of them have amazing mountain, town and river views.

While new luxury homes continue to pop up every day, some of the homes for sale in Redstone are Victorian-age residences constructed between 1840 and 1914. The town was developed by John Cleveland Osgood, a coal baron who was the cousin of President Grover Cleveland. Osgood built the Crystal River Railroad and many of the vintage homes in Redstone. The Cleveholm Manor, a mansion in town constructed in 1902, is also known as "Redstone Castle." The massive estate includes the main residence, a carriage house, a gamekeeper's lodge, servants' quarters and a greenhouse.

Neighborhood Highlights

• The town has few services, no grocery store or gas station, no stoplights and rarely any cell phone service. The Redstone General Store on Main Street is the town's top gathering spot, with fresh-baked cookies and ice cream cones that can't be beat.

• The Crystal River got its name because the waters are exceptionally clear.

• Redstone is about 14 miles from Carbondale. Buttermilk, home of the Winter X Games, is about 50 miles from Redstone. It is 54 miles to Sunlight Mountain Resort in Glenwood Springs, 57 miles to Aspen Highlands, and 59 miles to Aspen Mountain.
